The reduction of environmental impacts caused by power generation has always been the biggest driving force for technical development and has always determined the definition of European priority policies. This is being reflected by the talks of the European Council in Brussels that has been initiated as »Energy Summit«. Technologies for the reduction of emissions of fossil sources of energy and for increasing energy efficiency of renewables as well as fossil fuels are needed worldwide. Since renewable sources of energy are not continuously available and corresponding technologies for storing electricity have not been matured yet, fossil-fired power plants will still be needed in order to guarantee stable power supply over the next decades.
