In a speech to the Royal Geographic Society on 17 February 2011, UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne, called for greater development of Cogeneration and district heating to help mitigate global warming. Speaking about the risks to the climate posed by man-made climate change, C. Huhne highlighted a number of key actions that will limit greenhouse gas emissions from the UK, but said that: »Rrst, we must stop wasting energy. Better insulated buildings will do much of the work for us. But we must also look at renewable heat technology. More combined heat and power schemes, putting waste heat to better use. More district heating schemes.«
