Flux switches way to low cost speed control

A new type of reluctance motor, using two sets of stator windings, proves particularly suitable for low-cost speed control. Low enough in cost for use in cars, they can be used as a brushless direct substitute for DC motors. Used around the home or in the office, they run more quietly than other simple motors while offering higher speed running and significant energy economy.
