Living in a buffer park

Sintra is on the Unesco World Heritage list because of the natural way its historical buildings blend in with the beautiful landscape. Yet Sintra is also close to the big grey high-rise tenement districts of Lisbon's urban sprawl from the seventies. LOLA and Stereo Architects drew a plan that has panorama and greenery as its crucial factors. The 120 new dwellings are situated in clusters along a park lane, high up against the hill, amidst woodlands and meadows. Each cluster has its own covered car park and communal courtyard. The inevitable sports facilities plus restaurant are to the west.
