The gardens of the 500 years old country estate Twickel in Delden are a national monument. When Michael van Cessel was requested to restore the neglected park, he first looked into the various historical plans it was based on. This resulted in 'The echo of history', a map in which all time layers are projected one on top of the other. Subsequently, Van Cessel added a contemporary layer. His mas-terplan for the entire grounds and the elaborated plans for its subsectors are inspired by the drama and gracefulness of the English landscape style. Van Gessel enhances existing aspects and introduces modern details. The park is strategically thinned out, and new plantings are grouped together.
