Landscape architects have always made abundant use of drawings in their professional practice: for registering, projecting, illustrating and communicating. In the past their ability to draw free hand was one of the qualities distinguishing them from planners and technicians, but nowadays this is no longer necessarily the case. The PC and its mouse are in the process of taking over, and the world is reshaped by mice-moving men and women.rnThis book is about the role of drawings in landscape architecture and their various uses as instruments for analysis and design. We copy an existing reality in plans, and thereby create a simplified library of forms and elements found in the environment. We analyze and expose the abstract qualities and potentials of a landscape or a site by means of reducing complex compositions to elementary geometric forms, and finally we project new images onto an existing environment by means of the design drawing.
