Keeping a Dutch riverfront in Papendrecht strictly in hand

Where the Oude Maas, the Merwede and the Noord rivers come together we find the heart of the Drechtsteden ('Drecht towns'). Dordrecht, Papendrecht and Zwijndrecht form the backdrop to this panoramic water square, the 'Three-River Meeting Point'. Of old, lots of industry and activity was situated on these banks, but at the end of the last century many companies moved away. Though the Drechtsteden masterplan, the municipalities wished to develop the vacated banks into an urban region, and to link up the different towns and villages.
