Situated north of the Yangtze River, about 165km from Nanjing, Taizhou's history stretches back two thousand years. It is famous for its culture, being the hometown of many well-known Chinese such as the writer Shi Nai'an (1296-1372) and the painter and cal ligrapher Zheng Banqiao (1693-1765).
