Australia faces severe challenges due to climate change and rising temperatures. Substantial declines in rainfall and increasingly regular droughts are foreseen. In the near future, the driest continent will have to cope with even less water. Reasonable water management has become one of the priority issues for the economic and social future of the country.rnDue to the high degree of urbanization in the Sydney area, home to about 20% of the country's population, a main objective is resilient water management. Water Sensitive Urban Design programmes (WSUD), funded by the Federal Government, function as a monitoring platform, generating cross-sectoral links between key stakeholders, government, industry and research.
