Rijksweg 32 Meppel- Leeuwarden

Many of the motorways in the north and east of the Netherlands make for agreeable driving, but our national highway Rijksweg 32 is certainly my favourite. Really a road to step on the accelerator and at the same time look around at your ease. Perhaps its beginning at Meppel is a bit cluttered, but after that you find yourself whizzing along nice and fast through a variegated landscape. The trip takes you over the gently sloping Drentsche Plateau, through the fen lands of Wolvega and Heer-enveen, and across the open clay region - on towards Leeuwarden with its dark Achmea Tower looming from afar.
