I thought that the chapter on workstation trials was excellent and yet this is rarely addressed in practice. The implications of wireless technology, out of office working, working at home, on the train and in the car are also all addressed. To give an example of the detail provided, the book raises the importance of telling sales representatives to turn their vehicle air bag off when working on a laptop in the passenger seat of a car as there is the risk of this going off if another car collides with it and propelling the laptop into the user. This is an example of an issue that could easily be overlooked in a risk assessment. The book succeeds in providing a wide range of factors that managers need to be aware of when controlling the health and safety risks of office staff as well as generally improving the efficiency of office work. Office managers will find this book invaluable as almost everything they need is addressed and the various chapters show managers how to avoid many of the pitfalls if, for example, over-reliance is made on glossy brochures and simplistic guidance. Each chapter ends with a useful set of check points and most readers will find this aspect of the book very valuable as they dip back for quick reminders. Excellent DSE assessment forms are also provided.
