A comparison of an acute 1-h Ceriodaphnia dubia toxicity test (CerioFAST~TM) with Microtox~R and the standard acute 48-h. C. dubia acute toxicity test was undertaken to determine the toxicity of a variety of industrial effluents. CerioFAST is based on suppression of feeding activity of c. dubia in the presence of toxicants and consists of a 1-h-exposure period to a given toxicant followed by a 20-min-feeding period using fluorescent yeast cells. Twenty-eight industrial effluent samples, collected from northern and central Florida, were tested and compared using the CerioFAST and the standard 48-h C. dubia acute toxicity test.
