Resource-Conserving Agriculture Increases Yields in Developing Countries

We write in response to the comment from Phalan et al. on our 2006 paper in Environmental Science and Technology. We welcome all informed and vigorous debate on agricultural sustainability and its potential contributions to environmental goods and services. The comment made some constructive suggestions for a forward research agenda, for which we thank the authors. However, we need to clarify some of their misconceptions with regard to our work.
