摘要

Your letter raises a number of interesting points. Fish is considered an important part of the diet for some groups and is particularly important as a source of omega-3 fatty acids (Kris-Etherton et al., 2000). Yet, because of the pressures of current fishing methods on the stocks of wild fish, there will be increased reliance on farmed fish.rnClearly, both the nutritional quality and level of contaminants found in tissues of animals, including fish, are "related to the diets fed. As we have noted several times in previous publications (Mahaffey, 2004; Mahaffey et al., 2008) not all fish are created equal with regard to both their omega-3 content and contaminant levels present in fish (elements such as mercury as methylmercury and organic contaminants). Let me restrict my comments to methylmercury and to the omega-3 fatty acids.
