Should We Ban Organizational Steroids?

With the recent scandal involving allegations of steroid use by baseball players, we have constantly heard the terms "performance" and "performance enhancement" as they relate to improved home-run-hitting power. This has led me to consider an issue closer to my own work: Do our business organizations have their own "steroid" problem, of a less obvious sort? Specifically, do we focus too much on enhancing individual performance at the expense of overall organizational performance?
