On the Ecological Situation at the Territories Adjacent to Chemical and Metallurgical Facilities

Metallurgical and chemical manufacturing complexes in the Russian Federation can face challenges as they operate under private ownership. These challenges include the introduction of new manufacturing technology, legacy pollution, and the need to meet new regulatory standards and to improve air, soil, and surface water quality in surrounding areas. This article provides an overview of approaches and a system that can be used to monitor, model, and control the emission of impurities to the air and their ultimate deposition on land and surface waters. Based on modeling and technology used in nuclear power plants, the monitoring system requires the installation of perimeter modeling stations.
