Organizations — large and small, public and private, domestic and international — are increasingly dependent on Environmental Management Systems (EMS) to help them comply with: 1. Government regulations; 2. Industry standards; 3. Company standards and policies; 4. Company procedures; 5. Customers demands. These requirements are known collectively as the environmental "obligation." An EMS is a set of tools, documents and processes that organizations use to address their particular environmental obligations.
