摘要

Environmental activism in China identifies the particular character of Chinese environmentalism by unearthing the crucial role played by both culture and economic development, whilst locating both in the context of an authoritarian polity. The analytical strategy adopted by Lei Xie skilfully combines seemingly incongruent approaches, which nevertheless complement one another, drawing on ideas of ecological modernisation, political opportunities, culture and social networks.
