摘要

The Mauna Loa Observatory (MLO) has been continuously monitoring and collecting data related to atmospheric change since the 1950s. Charles David Keeling of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, began measuring carbon dioxide at the MLO in 1958 and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), scientists within the Global Monitoring Division have made around-the-clock measurements there since 1974. The undisturbed air, remote location, with minimal influences of vegetation and human activity, are ideal for the monitoring of greenhouse gases, and the two independent programmes of measurement provide a high degree of confidence in the results.
