摘要

In recent years there has been a florescence of scholarship on the history of organized summer camping in North America. The Nurture of Nature adds to the work of scholars such as Leslie Paris and Abigail Van Slyke by examining the experience of summer camping from the Canadian perspective. As Wall herself notes in the conclusion, her findings generally corroborate those of historians who have looked at summer camp as an American phenomenon (p. 256). Nonetheless, the distinctive flavor of summer camping in Ontario (the focus is almost exclusively on this province) emerges in this thoroughly researched book.
