Canadians frequently complain about American indifference to our history and cultures. Few American art museums own work by Canadian artists, and most American art historians have only a superficial knowledge of the history of art north of the border. They would be well advised to acquire Marylin McKay's history of Canadian landscape art. A measure of its strength is the fact that the book was shortlisted for the prestigious 2012 Canada Prize in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
