With effect from this issue, I'm delighted to assume the editorship of Environmental Engineering, at the same time welcoming my colleague Jonathan Newell as technical editor. I hope you enjoy our first efforts. John Pullin's recent tenure has set a daunting standard, one which we do not take lightly. Pullin and I were colleagues some 30 years ago, being editors of The Engineer and Design Engineering respectively, and our editorial teams occupied adjacent wings of Morgan-Grampian House in Woolwich. M-G, as it was affectionately known, was a fertile breeding ground for technical editors, many of whom are still to be found editing the UK's leading technical magazines. In those days, copy was bashed out on typewriters using carbon paper: the blue copy was sent to a typesetter, the white copy held in the office records with the pink copy being retained by the author.
