The annual conference of the Association of American Geographers (AAG) brings together a wide range of participants from nearly every topical specialty in the discipline, plus a fairly wide representation of professionals who have footholds in other science and social science disciplines as well as within geography, geoscience, geographic information science and environmental science. The April 2010 conference in many ways resembled a huge scholarly banquet table with not only a wide variety of cuisines from which to sample but also the variations in the way they were presented. The 2010 conference in Washington, DC, attracted approximately 8200 registrants and offered them a 5-day program that covered slightly more than 300 pages with approximately 20 academic papers, panels, workshops, special interest meetings and plenary sessions to select from on each page.
