The Dutch EU presidency wants the bloc's governments and firms to see the environment as an "economic opportunity" and this month rounded up environment ministers, and selected stakeholders, to discuss the matter. The fact that business representatives were invited "shows how keen environment ministers are to debunk the myth" that economic growth and 'competitiveness' cannot go hand in hand with environmental sustainability, Catherine Day, head of the European Commission's Environment Directorate General, told journalists in Brussels.
