UK firms back one registration per substance for REACH

UK chemical firms have come out in favour of British government proposals that would allow each substance to go through the clearance process only once under the future EU chemicals regulatory system. The British Chemical Industry Association's move came just after the close last month of UK consultations (EW, 13 February, p. 23) on the draft EU regulation on the registration, evaluation and authorization of chemicals (REACH). "We support the principle of 'one substance, one registration' and would be happy to develop a flexible approach to such a regime," the CIA said in a statement. The CIA stance is surprising in that it goes against previous advice from the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic).
