摘要

More use should be made of non financial penalties - such as custodial sentences or Anti Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) - to prevent environmental crime, the Environment Agency for England and Wales said on 28 July. In its latest annual Spotlight report on the environmental performance of business, the Environment Agency for England and Wales confirms that financial penalties remained the most widely used sanction in the UK courts last year but highlights how alternative deterrents (such as ASBOs and measures like vehicle and equipment seizure) are already making more of an impact in curtailing the activities of criminals who profit at the expense of the environment.
