Parliament clears Swiss bid for EEA membership

The European Parliament this month cleared Switzerland's bid to become a member of the European Environment Agency, five years after Bern put in its membership application. The Parliament adopted a report from Karl-Heinz Florenz (Germany - European People's Party), its Environment Committee chair, pointing out that the Swiss confederation, as the country is officially called, to date "has no membership arrangement with the European Environment Agency in spite of the useful information and knowledge it has concerning the Alps."
