The electrical and electronics industry "will have little option but to move manufacturing abroad" if the UK government does not get the implementation of the EU's waste electrical and electronic equipment directive (WEEE) right, the UK Recycling Electrical Producers' Industry Consortium (REPIC) is warning. The government should have announced its intentions for the implementation of the WEEE directive by mid March, but REPIC, whose members represent 80% of electrical and electronic sales, said there is "insufficient time" to get the infrastructure in place by the EU's deadline of August. The lobby called for a delay until 2006 in order for the government and industry to agree workable solutions.
