Commission demands emissions quota cuts in first ten NAPs

The European Commission has slashed quotas an average 7 per cent in the first batch of national allocation plans (NAP) approved for 2008-2012 under the EU's emissions trading scheme (ETS). Industry welcomes the move, but environmental groups called for more controls on the way that allocations were granted (see story this issue).
