More than 2.3 million tonnes of steel packaging were recycled in Europe last year. This represents an average rate of 63 per cent in the EU 25 - an increase of six per cent compared to 2004, according to recent figures of APEAL, the European Association of Producers of Steel for Packaging (see Tables 1 and 2).
