Europe would have already met its obligations to reduce greenhouse gases under the Kyoto Protocol if it were not for rising emissions from transport, particularly aviation and shipping. This is the message of a report released this week by non governmental group T&E - the European Federation for Transport and the Environment - that found European greenhouse gas emissions from transport increased by 32.2 per cent, or over 2 per cent per year on average, between 1990 and 2004.
