Three car and two oil companies have come together calling for EU legislation to promote non-oil transport fuels from natural gas, biomass or coal feedstock that they say could cut air pollution by reducing exhaust emissions and eventually help cut greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative was welcomed by Industry Commissioner Guenter Verheugen and Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs on the eve of the launch of the Commission's green paper on energy (see EE & PL: March 10, 2006, p4-5).
