German car firms doing least to cut emissions

German car makers have made the least progress in bringing down average fleet carbon dioxide (CO_2) emissions and increasing fuel efficiency compared to other auto-producing nations, according to a new study from sustainable transport lobby group Transport and Environment (T&E).rnT&E found that in 2006, French, Italian and Japanese carmakers extended their lead over German firms. Moreover, German car firms even increased CO_2 emissions in 2006 by 0.6 per cent, compared to cuts of an average 1.6 per cent for French and Italian counterparts.
