EU green standard should be voluntary, says ACE

Compliance with any future EU advance performance benchmarks - or lead standard - for the greenest products should be voluntary, according to the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (ACE).rnIn a position paper for the European Commission's consultation on sustainable production and consumption (SPC) and sustainable industrial policy (SIP) that closed this week, ACE says companies should be free to apply the future advance performance benchmarks or not. However, ACE says that the lead standards combined with minimum requirements are "a workable approach for packaging."
