In less than eight weeks time the Czech Republic will take over the rotating EU Council presidency, from France. Six months after that, it will be the turn of Sweden. Whereas the French and Swedish objectives relating to environment and energy respectively are quite ambitious, the Czech presidency will have limited aspirations, warns research body Datamonitor.rnAccording to Datamonitor, the Czech presidency will aim low because of the growing instability developing within its political system. Last week, the ruling centre-right coalition party, the Civic Democrats (ODS), was defeated in local elections. Having seen its senatorial majority decrease to just three seats (in an 81-strong house), the coalition no longer holds the three fifths majority needed to ratify constitutional amendments and international treaties.
