Finland is unlikely to end up facing a legal challenge from the European Commission over its low recycling rates, according to packaging industry leaders. Finnish recycling rates are expected to rise by the end of this year. If this is the case, there should be no reason for the Commission to pursue legal action against the member state. Managing director of the Environmental Register of Packaging, PYR, Annukka Leppanen-Turkula, told EE & PL this week that the Commission should find no cause for concern as Finland's recycling percentage will most likely not fall short of the required 55 per cent recycling target by the end of the year.
