Finnish foamed glass facility boosts recycling rates

In Finland glass bottles eligible for a deposit have a return rate of 100% with most of the glass bottles being collected via an automated deposit system. This automated system gives a cash return or credit receipt to the customer and separates aluminium, plastics and glass. Due to a combination of this efficient deposit system combined with modern purification technology the glass quality is excellent; also meaning a particularly low lead content. Only 1% of the total material flow consists of substances other than glass. Half of the impurities can be recycled and the other half goes to utilisation. This means close to 100% of the collected glass is recycled.
