MEPs' CO_2 vote bad for employment say unions

The date for the introduction of CO_2 emission standards for cars should be maintained at 2012, according to the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) in a reaction to last week's vote on the proposal in the European Parliament's Industry, Research and Energy Committee (see EE & PL, September 5, 2008, p. 14). Expressing its disappointment over the outcome of the vote, ETUC called for a serious study on the possible impacts of such legislation on employment.
