The European Environmental Bureau (EEB) will hold a seminar on soil next week - in an attempt to move forward discussions that stalled last year at the 20 December Environment Council. The Soil Framework Directive is now back on the EU agenda as the French Presidency, to the dislike of some (see story this issue), has committed to achieving a political agreement before the end of the year. The EEB says that effective protection of this vital and effectively non renewable resource, possible under the Directive, is vital if the EU is to ensure the long term sustainable production of agricultural products.
