Luxembourg: Valorlux exceeds recycling/recovery targets

Luxembourg green dot scheme Valorlux's members met all the EU targets under the 2004/12/EC Directive for 2007 - with around 70 per cent recycling and recovery results (see Table 1, p12). Material specific rates ranged from 39.87 per cent for plastics, higher than most EU states, to 88.79 per cent for paper/card. Luxembourg, unlike most EU countries, has a separate target for beverage cartons (also 15 per cent under the old agreement) which it easily met (83.6 per cent), but it did not have a wood target for 2007. The collection rate was 76.31 kg/inhabitant/year of household packaging to which 11.41 kg/inhabitant/year of commercial packaging should be added. Just over 30,000 tonnes of household packaging was selectively collected, as well as 4,339 tonnes of plastics/metals/beverage cartons and 5,432 tonnes of commercial packaging.
