Commission consults on car labelling directive

As part of a renewed Community strategy on CO_2 from cars, the Commission is revising the cars/ CO_2 labelling Directive - and this week launched a public consultation on the revision. As part of the Directive, the Commission is asking to hear consumers' opinions on the fuel consumption and CO_2 emissions of new cars. Stakeholders and the general public are invited to say how such information can be made clearer and more consistent. Studies have shown that the current labelling Directive is not working as well as it should, with labels of widely varying quality across the EU, and needs to be amended.
