Austrian glass recycling to top 80 per cent

Austria should record recycling figures of more than 80 per cent for 2007, following on from 84 per cent in 2006, according to the latest figures of glass collection and recovery company Austria Glas Recycling GmbH (GmbH). The country achieved another waste glass collection record last year, with a total of 221,000 tonnes. Collection volumes increased by roughly 7,000 tonnes or by 3.5 per cent compared with 2006. These figures mean that the recycling rate should be well in excess of 80 per cent. The medium term aim of AGR is to achieve a 90 per cent recycling rate.
