Germany's packaging schemes confident of growth, says study

Nearly all Germany's nine packaging collection and recovery schemes expect to increase their market share this year, with only the first and biggest green dot company Duales System Deutschland (DSD) GmbH not anticipating growth. However, if all their predictions come true, total market share would equal almost 200 per cent. That is the message of a recent survey carried out by German waste management newsletter Europaisches Wirtschaftsdienst (EUWID). The 200 per cent figure means that a few companies will either have to lower their sights or give up business. Industry sources, and DSD, suspect that ultimately only a few schemes will remain. Currently only seven have a full licence.
