Council and Parliament heading for clash over mercury

MEPs could be heading for a clash with the Council over a proposed metallic mercury regulation if the European Parliament follows the stance taken by its Environment Committee in a vote this week. The 26 March vote on a report from Greek left winger Dimitrios Papadimoulis was the second reading on the proposal for the Committee, which opted to reinstate a series of controversial amendments adopted at first reading and crucially thrown out by Council in its common position.
