EU leaders meet to decide future climate action

The end of next week will see EU heads of state gather in Brussels for the Spring Summit - with one of the key items on the agenda the climate and energy package. The 3 March Environment Council adopted conclusions for the summit, which calls for the EU to build its 30 per cent emissions reduction target explicitly into the future worldwide climate treaty to replace the Kyoto Protocol. The Environment Council also highlights concerns about carbon leakage and calls for the issue to be "analysed and addressed urgently".
