Experts criticise Commission biofuels target

The Commission's target of ten per cent biofuel use by 2020 is not the right approach to promote sustainable production, according to a workshop this week at the European Parliament. According to experts on the panel addressing the 4 March Brussels meeting, the target should not be volume but emissions reduction. They therefore suggest dropping the "arbitrary volume-based target" and establishing instead a system that rewards biofuels that make the best greenhouse gas emissions savings.
