The European Parliament's vote, last week, in favour of strengthening the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which will require all new buildings to be "zero carbon" from 2019 was warmly welcomed by green groups, MEPs and trade associations alike.rnThey hailed the fact that buildings built after 2019, will have to produce as much renewable energy as they consume on site by using technologies such as solar panels, micro wind turbines and biomass systems and welcomed the call for more public investments in energy efficient buildings.
