Germany To Outlaw Chromium In Leather Products

Chromium is to be banned from leather used in toys, watchstraps, handbags, clothing and furniture in Germany under a draft law due to come into force soon after final adoption in a few months time. The ban comes in a draft ordinance on standstill until 22 May while Germany consults other member states and the European Commission. The draft says the ban will cover consumer goods that are intended for more than just temporary contact with the human body, "especially clothing, watchbands, purses and backpacks, furniture upholstery, money bags as well as toys made of leather."
