Meps Pushing For Greater Emas Simplification

The European Parliament's Enviroment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee this week called for greater simplification for the EU's eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS). Voting for a draft report from British Socialist Linda McAvan by 52 votes for, one against and one abstention, the Committee backed a series of amendments aimed to make life easier for organisations signing up to the voluntary scheme. Notably one amendment would scratch a new three-yearly reporting cycle that the European Commission is seeking to introduce.
