A very limited number of environmentally friendly products will be allowed a cut back to five per cent VAT in the latest proposal to be drafted by the European Commission's Taxation and Customs Union directorate general.rnThe proposal, set to be tabled in March or April is part of the EU's attempt to promote energy saving products. The scheme would allow member states to reduce VAT to five per cent, but would only apply to a limited number of green products that require specialist installation, for example solar panels and wind turbines.
